The scene was set for another spectacular
open day celebrating 10 years of Ecosse history and nobody
was to be disappointed
Despite the time of year and the ever present
worry of bad weather a better weekend couldn't have been chosen.
It wasn't bikini time (as the models will contest) but at
least it wasn't sub-zero or wet!
Club Together
Both the PGAC and PSOC were well
represented by their members who showed up in numbers to show
off their cars but also take advantage of the rolling road
bargain run sessions. To see how their motors are actually
performing. This proved a crowd puller for much of the day
as any petrol head is drawn to the noise of a tweaked engine
at full RPM.
Painting in Numbers
Many club members also took advantage of a free
spraying lesson. Ecosse's own master craftsman Scott patiently
gave one to one lessons throughout the day. It was a rare
and enjoyable opportunity to actually have a go using only
the best equipment under professional guidance. The best panel
sprayer on the day was judged to be Tall Paul who received
a gleaming trophy and deluxe pack of valet products courtesy
of Meguiars. We're sure Paul will be polishing his paintwork
with the knowledge he has a talent uncovered!
Good to see some familiar
faces
It was great to see some of the cover cars not
only current or even future but from the past there on the
day. The legendary 306 sedan was there all the way from Ireland
and looking as good as ever, as well as the 309 turbo, Ecosse
306 estate, one of the first wide arched 306 V6's and more.
In fact no less than 4 of the 5 Ecosse Super GTI Top 20 winners
were present, looking as good as ever! It's always nice to
see that these cars have gone on to be well maintained and
used despite no longer being in the limelight. Still amazing
head turners that prove to be timeless with good design and
quality finish.
Feeling Lucky?
Throughout the course of the day many amazing
prizes were claimed by lucky winners of the prize draw:
- Set of Avon Tyres - Peter Kay (Falkirk)
- G88 Tarox Discs & Pads - John Ballantine
(Cumbria)
- Toyo Tyres (£250) - Stevie Dower (Aberdeen)
- Eibach Springs - Neil Black (Newcastle)
- Simota Induction Kit - Paul Barnes (Glasgow)
These were just to name a few, but the prizes
didn't end there. Two cars were judged independently by professional
photographers who were covering the event for Super GTI Mag
- France, Slick Mag - Ireland and Performance French Car magazine
UK. It was their task to find two cars that would to be worthy
of "Top Turned Out Pug " and "Best Super Street".
Inti's Supercharged 206 took top show car honours while Steve
D's newly acquired "Street Sleeper" 306 T16 took
best modified street car, quite an affirmation of a good purchase!
I've started so I'll finish
One of the main attractions and sources of much
entertainment was the quiz! The following 4 person teams went
head-to-head with the remaining 2 teams making the final:
- Peugeot Dealer - Hardies of Larbert, Dunfermline
& Stirling
- Ecosse Customers
- Peugeot GTI Autosport Club
- Peugeot Sport Club
The questions were a mixture of Peugeot history,
motorsport, current model trivia, Ecosse history and more.
Lovingly compiled by hardcore Peugeot anoraks. (you know who
you are!) They cannot reveal themselves due to the sheer shame
of knowing way too much Peugeot trivia. Although there was
questions a plenty read by the Christopher Tatum (AKA Spud)
from Cornwall who took the role of the quizmaster for the
day. A Cornish translator was not required but the mic was
is need of a little more volume and through the excitement
some questions were lost through frantic answering by the
teams and the eagerness to hit the buzzers and freeze the
opposing team out.
The Peugeot dealer was the first out, but they
did themselves proud to put themselves forward, so pat on
the back you folks. Next out was Ecosse Customers, Gareth,
Steve, Julian and Richard. They put a sterling fight up that
sadly went pear shaped, and lost out to the PGAC.
The final delivered the two biggest pug clubs
in the uk fighting for the Ultimate Ecosse Pug Nut Trophy.
This mighty big prize came with four bottles of champagne,
Thornton Chocs and VIP tickets for four to the French Car
Show 2008. More importantly what was thrown in for free was
the chance to win for their club's honour. A very noble cause
indeed! So without causing too much of a build up the Peugeot
Sport Club won and the Peugeot GTI Autosport club were graceful
in their defeat. Luckily no riots insued nor public unrest
so it was fair to say the fun factor was kept intact.
Why not have a go
at our online version of the quiz?
All in all a very enjoyable day was had by all,
good weather, amazing cars, entertainment and a superb atmosphere,
what more could you want.?
Hopefully we will get a chance to hold another event in the
future, but we might have one a little more often than every
five years!
This isn't an Oscar Acceptance
Speech
A special thanks to everyone who made the effort
to travel from everywhere and to share this informal day,
supporting Peugeot clubs, faithful customers new and old,
friends and staff who gave their Sunday up to make a great
day.
A big thank you to Colin McCaffery, who constantly amused
everyone with his presenting skills on the P.A system. His
personal appearance fee has shot up since his famous debut
so we'll have to start saving up for next time. Cheers mate.
