Speyside Stages Rally Saturday 11th August 2007. Location: Elgin
Lanarkshire teenager, Alick Kerr (18) from Bothwell, along with experienced
co-driver Tom Hynd of Inverbervie, sealed the Ecosse 205 1.9 Challenge with
another class win on the Speyside Stages Rally based in and around Elgin. With
a further 3 rounds to go, Kerr cannot be caught by any of his closest rivals.
Were really pleased to get the championship in the bag, commented
a delighted Kerr, and its good that well avoid the pressure
of having to take it to the last few rounds.
Kerr also maintains his lead at the top of the Junior Section of the Scottish
Rally Championship and has jumped from 3rd to 1st overall in the championships
two-wheel drive category.
Despite
the result, the day did not go entirely to plan. A brake bias problem with the
Leaker Direct and Bags Online backed Peugeot 205 GTi left the crew with no front
brakes for almost the entire rally. It was apparent we had a problem during
the first stage as every time I braked it felt like the handbrake was being
pulled, explained Kerr, It was almost impossible to drive and we
had a few spins throughout the day. Fortunately we did manage to keep the car
out the ditches and make it to the finish.
The next outing for the team will be the Merrick Forest Stages on 8th September
when the Championship moves from the Highlands and heads off for the south west
of Scotland.
